OddoppReader
OddoppReader is a personal RSS reader. It fetches only the feeds one person has subscribed to, so every feed it reads has a single subscriber.
It identifies itself with this User-Agent:
OddoppReader/0.1 (RSS reader; +https://reader.oddopp.com/)
The version number changes with each release; the name stays the same.
How it fetches
- All requests come from two fixed addresses, one IPv4 and one IPv6.
- Each feed is checked about once an hour, and less often while it returns errors.
- When your server sends an ETag or Last-Modified, it sends them back, so an unchanged feed costs a
304 Not Modified. - Requests to the same site are at least two seconds apart.
- It honors
Retry-Afteron 429 and 503 responses. - It reads feeds, plus the page a feed was found on when it's first added. It doesn't crawl links.
- Like other feed readers, it doesn't consult robots.txt for subscribed feeds, because a person asked for each one.
- It doesn't run JavaScript, so a bot challenge blocks it. To let it through, allow the addresses its requests come from; they don't change.
To stop it
Return 410 Gone for the feed, or 403 Forbidden to requests whose User-Agent contains OddoppReader. A 410 stops polling for good; a 403 slows it to once a day and tells its subscriber the feed is blocked.
